Gearboxes have really evolved, and I’ve had mixed experiences with them. I loved the MK2 Golf but struggled with the DSG gearbox in the MK5. It was better in the Arteon, but still quirky. I also read about someone trying to develop an EV gearbox with gear changes, curious to see how that would work, what do you think about it?

I get that! While manual gearboxes have their charm, I think EVs are best with smooth, single-gear drives. A gearbox with gear changes for an EV sounds interesting but might complicate the simplicity.

You're right, gearboxes have come a long way. I remember those early DSGs in the Mk5 – they were definitely a bit jerky sometimes. The Arteon was smoother, but you're right, still a bit quirky.

An EV gearbox? That's an interesting concept. I wonder how it would improve efficiency or performance.

I learned that the Hyundai Ioniq 5 N has a simulated gearbox letting you shift gears with paddles which adds a fun driver-focused feel. While it’s slower than single-speed EVs and tops out around 265 km/h, it’s a clever way to bring some excitement back to electric driving. Just a thought

I haven't really seen reviews out there about gearboxes. Something never mentioned from the youtube reviews I saw. No news either if MG is developing improving their gearbox.
